Regulatory Alert! - Dentists Need to Refile Amalgam Separator Forms
In 2017, the United State Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued its final regulations regarding amalgam separators in dental offices. This regulation largely mirrors the existing New York State regulation in place from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
Those dental offices that have been in compliance with DEC’s 2006 regulation do not need to physically change anything in their offices to comply with the new EPA regulation. They do, however, need to refile a new certification form by October 12, 2020.
Dentists practicing in the five boroughs of New York City should complete and file their compliance report form with the New York City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) at:
New York City Department of Environmental Protection
Attn: Industrial Inspections and Permitting Bureau of Wastewater Treatment
96-05 Horace Harding Expressway, 1st Floor
Corona, NY 11368-5107
Fax: (718) 595-4771
Or Email: bwt-pretreatment@dep.nyc.gov
