Important Changes to NYSED CE Relicensure Requirements

Due to COVID-19, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) has made the following changes to its continuing education relicensure requirements:

  • Dentists whose licenses are due for renewal between the period of March 1, 2020 and January 1, 2022 may complete ALL the required 60 credit hours via self-study courses, as long as such courses are offered by Department-approved providers and are in appropriate subject areas. An explanation of what subject areas the NYSED deems appropriate can be found at www.op.nysed.gov/prof/dent/dentceques.htm#subj (scroll down to item #21). Information about determining whether a CE sponsor is approved can be found by visiting www.op.nysed.gov/prof/dent/dentceques.htm#spon.

  • Dentists may complete the CPR requirement for relicensure via virtual CPR certification courses; however, such courses must be offered by Department-approved providers which include the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, the National Safety Council and the American Safety and Health Institute.
