As dental health professionals, we recognize the importance of continuing education. Remaining current with our profession by familiarizing ourselves with new techniques, emerging technologies and the latest research is of paramount importance in rendering optimal patient care.

Whether you are a specialist or general practitioner, SDDS offers a variety of continuing education programs on topics relevant to everyday practice that will help you meet your New York State licensure requirements.

Membership Meetings (1 Credit)

 

CE Requirements for Dentists

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) requires dentists to complete 60 continuing education credit hours every three years for dental relicensure, of which 18 credits can be from self-study courses. The remaining 42 credits must come from live webinars, which NYSED defines as any synchronous course (in-person or virtual) in which participants can directly interact with the instructor. Required courses

  • Opioid prescribing/pain management (every three years for dentists who have a current DEA registration number)
  • New York State approved infection control course (every four years)
  • Oral cancer and tobacco awareness (one-time basis)
  • Dental jurisprudence and ethics (one-time basis)
  • CPR (every two years)
