The Second District Dental Society is the local component of the New York State Dental Association and the American Dental Association representing 1,400 member dentists in Brooklyn and Staten Island. It is our hope that this website provides our members with information that will aid them in making the most out of their membership. Synopsis:

This lecture will cover the following: 
  • Prevalence: Articles listing the prevalence of cracked teeth since 2015 and the pandemic will be discussed.
  • American Association of Endodontists (AAE) terminology of cracked teeth: We will review the most recently updated definitions according to the AAE Glossary of Endodontic Terms from 2020.
  • Best practices for the cracked tooth: In this section, we will review treatment for the cracked tooth with reversible pulpitis, irreversible pulpitis and pulpal necrosis. Studies will be cited for recommended treatment and their success rates. Factors that may affect long-term prognosis of the cracked tooth will also be discussed.
  • Vertical root fractures: Definition, diagnosis and treatment options for both single rooted and multiple rooted teeth with vertical root fractures will be reviewed.
  • Case examples: Case examples with different scenarios will be reviewed.
Upon successful completion of this lecture, attendees will:
  • Know the signs and symptoms and how to identify a cracked tooth.
  • Understand the best practices for treatment. 
  • Understand the importance of early recognition and treatment of a cracked tooth, increasing its overall success and survival rate.
  • Learn tips on how to diagnose root fractures.

*This event is open to hospital residents and new dentists ONLY. New dentists are dentists who graduated from dental school within the last 10 years. Registrations from dentists who are NOT hospital residents/new dentists will be cancelled.

Refund and Cancellation Policy:
All requests for refunds or credits must be made in writing or by phone and received at least two weeks prior to the course date. A full refund, less a ten dollar ($10.00) administrative charge, or if requested and available, credit for a similarly priced course will be issued. Refunds or credits requested after this date will not be granted, including requests made based on absence due to illness, late arrival for courses and/or weather conditions. In the event that a course is cancelled by Second District, paid tuition will be fully refunded.
