While industrial marketing focuses on single molar dentistry, complex cases are more present than ever. Understanding how to manage complex cases can be overwhelming to some. Practicing facially driven prosthodontics can significantly improve clinician’s confidence and communication skills necessary to convey simple and complex dental cases.
Facially driven dentistry is a comprehensive and personalized approach to restoring the function, esthetics and overall harmony of the entire mouth. This approach to dental treatment planning prioritizes the analysis and consideration of the patient's facial features, proportions and dynamics in planning and executing dental procedures. It involves designing restorations, such as veneers or crowns or dentures, that complement the patient’s overall facial appearance. Understanding the relationship between teeth and facial structures in static and dynamic motions can help with simple and complex treatment plans and their execution. It begins with a comprehensive examination and facial analysis using techniques such as digital imaging, photography and physical examination to assess facial proportions and esthetic harmony.
Upon successful completion of this lecture, attendees will be able to understand the fundamental aspects of facially generated dentistry for limited and comprehensive treatments utilizing the following tools – smile analysis, laboratory communication, dental photography, esthetic wax-up and denture set-ups.
